Net zero upfront carbon
Improving Consistency in Whole Life Carbon Assessment and Reporting, Carbon Definitions for the Built Environment, Buildings and Infrastructure, Version ‘A’, May 2021, published by WLCN, LETI and RIBA, defines a net zero upfront carbon asset as; ‘…one where the sum total of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions, excluding ‘carbon sequestration’, from Modules A1-A5 is minimized, meets local carbon targets (e.g.kgCO2e/m2), and with additional ‘offsets’, equals zero.’
NB Life cycle modules are defined in BS EN 15978 and PAS2080 for infrastructure.
